Bective Rangers FC

This project was done after graduation in October 2021. Local rugby club Bective Rangers in Donnybrook, Dublin 4 wished to improve their website as it was very outdated and poorly designed. The final design was completed on Squarespace, so that in the future it could be easily updated and run by any designated member of the club.

Meetings

A number of meetings were held with the club’s Chairman and other Executive board members with regard to what the club wanted for their website. They agreed that the current website was unattractive, difficult to use, outdated and disorganised. During these meetings we discussed what was best for the new website and I showed them some possible designs. The club required that the website should be easy and clear to use for all members but also attractive for the new and younger members.

Main Objectives

Improve usability & user experience

The current Bective Rangers website is very difficult to navigate with broken links, empty pages and important information hidden. For the new website it was important to remove these empty pages and fix the broken links. The user flow will also have to be improved to prioritise what people value most. Items like recent and up to date news, fixtures, social media, and the history of the club.

Enhance Aesthetic of overall website

The lack of aesthetic makes the site unattractive to possible new members and investors. The homepage is very chaotic, and many other pages are unclear and unattractive. The new website must be visual, designed better and structured well.

Improve SEO

The current SEO of The Bective Rangers website is very poor, resulting in only direct searches for their website. Considering the high density of other rugby clubs in the local area, it is important for them to improve this so that if a prospective member searches “rugby clubs near me” or “rugby clubs in south Dublin” Bective should be on that first page and near the top of that page.

Over time and many meetings the overall structure of the site has changed since these original sitemap and wireframes were done.

Fonts & Colours

Font: Poppins

The family font chosen to give the website a simpler and more modern look was Poppins. The two main colours used are a rich green and red. The same colours as the club and the club jerseys.

Conclusion

The overall website was designed after consultation with multiple different parties, from older to younger members and to possible new members. Items were reordered on the site, user experience improved, and the overall character of the website was visually improved using strong colours, large images, and clear text.
